ARTIST: ALICE SNOW

Alice Snow is an artist I find very inspirational due to her well known and aesthetically appealing artistic style. her work is simple yet effective and clear yet almost traditional. this style represents a twist on traditional tattoo illustrations.

Alice snow uses a pastel colour scheme which contrasts well with the black linework and block fill, she also uses dot work to add shading to the linework which is a method I personally enjoy doing.

Her book "the ABC book of horror" shows 26 illustrations with dark undertones for every letter of the alphabet. I find this book very compelling and illustrative, and find it humorous because she has given each of the characters on the pages little characteristic features, such as the devil jack in the box on the page "J is for jack popping his head" and how she somehow made her illustration of the devil on page "D is for the devil when you die" look cute and childlike, giving it large eyes and a cute expression.

I find her artwork very inspiring and I hope to use her for inspiration for my artwork in the future because I think it ties in well with my own personal artistic style. I would like to experiment with watercolour paints and coloured pencils to try to make a similar affect of contrast as she is able to accomplish in all of her work, and I want to also try out different methods for drawing portraits to get better with drawing faces.
