September 17th 2019. we went to the Canoe Lake in Southsea, Portsmouth as a group project into exploring different locations and taking photos of beauty points. It was a somewhat overcast day but we were still able to take lots of great photos of the swans, people, water and architecture. there was a lot of inspiration surrounding us as we walked around the lake. The group of six of us decided to also head to the rock gardens to get further inspiration. we took photos so that we could draw when we got home because we couldn't find a good place to sit to draw and focus.
When we got to the lake we noticed many different kinds of people all there for one reason, THE SWANS! the swans weren't even in the water, they were lazily lounging by the cafe, I even saw one chase a little boy who was trying to feed them. the swans, being one of the most memorable part of Canoe lake overcast the fun memory of crab fishing. in summer, you can find hundreds of people with their crab nets and hooks and sitting along the side of the lake, some with their feet in the cool water with their bucket full of the fun little creatures they were able to catch. however, since we went in September there were less people which meant less inspiration for illustrations.
writing my haiku was difficult, I'm not a very imaginative person, so creating a whole haiku was very difficult for me but I was finally able to come up with:
"swan boats a'plenty
the smell of food in the air
families meet there"
the idea of the 5/7/5 syllable scheme of haikus wasn't too difficult to get a grasp of but when it came to what I wanted to include, i felt like I had to change my wording to make it work phonologically. instead of "families meet there" I wanted it to say "families gather there"| but that equals six syllables.
